Project 2 - Soundscape

Since I'm approaching all of our main projects as stages of a fully-realized piece, I created Project 2 to accompany the visual elements I will make in Project 3. Using both downloaded sounds and sounds I recorded in Florence and Montepulciano, I made a soundscape that seems to move through three different environments: a crowded city street, an outdoor park or courtyard, and finally the private chapel of a Florentine noble's house. My first project, my family crest, was inspired by the prevalence of the Medici crest in Florence and even in other towns throughout Italy–––sculpted onto walls and cathedral floors, embroidered on Renaissance-era clothes and fabrics, and even painted on kitchenware. My goal for Project 2 was to walk the listener through a few of many spaces where a powerful family's symbol might be spotted---sculpted, embroidered, or painted, in spaces public and private, indoors and outdoors, ornate and simple.
