Artist Statement:

Social media does a good job of showing the highlights and the luxury what it’s like to able to live and travel in Europe. And yes, there are some unimaginable moments to never be forgotten, but there are also lessons to be learned and struggles of living/traveling abroad. This exhibition allows you to interact with the experiences and memories of the artist while also contributing self-reflections of living and traveling in Europe. The black and white images allow the viewers mind to imagine what colors might fill the image. Having the color stripped allows one’s mind to either wonder or remember. Displayed on the screen is an interactive photo grid, where there is an option to click on a location and see a short animation and/or message about the designation. Left on the table are cards where anyone can express a feeling or drawing. The style is meant to mimic what it is supposed to look like when opening a travel journal, with the use of tape to attach images and the short messages with titles on the images. The purpose of the activity is lighthearted and something for everyone to contribute towards. It gives the viewers a chance to add to the journal in a more realistic way.
